Many trees lent their names to States and places in Malaysia. We sometimes forget or do not know the origin of the names of the places we are living in or visiting. The following trees will enlighten visitors when they visit this group of tree collections.
Phyllanthus pectinatus; Melaka tree giving its name to the state of Melaka.
Lepisanthes alata; the Johor state is of the same name as this Johor tree.
Lagerstroemia floribunda, or Kedah Bungor; although in this case the tree might have adopted the state’s name.
Sandoricum koetjape, or Sentul must have given the name to the area in Kuala Lumpur call Sentul.
Suregada multiflora, Merlimau, or fake lime, gives its name to a small town in Melaka.
